Who doesn't have a cool rock? But why does it look the way it does, and how does the Earth produce it? This course is as simple as a pile of rocks but as exciting as polished gemstones! Here, we will learn about earthquakes and seismic waves, plate tectonics, the many types and categories of minerals, crystals, and rocks, the gradual and dramatic processes of erosion, the many ways the Earth behaves electromagnetically, the complexities of weather and climate, and the careers geology can offer. We will also do hands-on labs looking at rocks under specialized microscopes, investigating magnetic materials, identifying minerals, and going outside to do field geology ourselves.
